Mario Monti already learned a lot about bicycles and how to build them from his uncle, who turned to this business after working as a blacksmith. He then went on to become one of the best pro bike mechanics in Italy. In the 1950s he started working for Jaques Anquetil and through his meticulous working style saved him some legendary victories. He was also a colleague to another famous team mechanic: Pep Magni. His workshop in Baggio, a working class district of Milan, soon became a meeting point for cycling enthusiasts and amateur club riders. So many of the racers in his area ended up on one of his bikes. We are happy to be able to present a Monti road bike from the early 1970s here. The frame of this authentic bike is actually very nicely made and some solutions are outstanding. The seat lug for example, with it's smooth transitions and unusual shape is a piece of beauty. The bottom bracket shell is drilled in a similar way as the Colnago Modello Roma was.
And then you have the parts. It is equipped with early 70s Campagnolo Record, 3ttt Record stem, Martano rims or the modified Universal Super 68 brakes.
The third reason for attention is the overall condition. Both the original paint and parts are well preserved, considering that this bicycle is almost 50 years old.
This bright orange beauty is a splendid choice for a tru vintage bike lover.
