The history of the Monark brand (which still exists) reaches back to as early as 1908, when it was founded in Sweden. For a quite a while, it was very closely bound with another major Swedish brand - Crescent. In the 1960s and early 1970s, these two companies existed alongside each other and the model differed mainly by components used and the paint job. Monark usually had the typical light blue color paint, just like ours has. The brand was also successful in the racing field, when the brothers Gösta and Thomas Pettersson rode the blue Monarks to victory in 1967, 1968 and 1969 world championships team time trial. The brand became widely popular not only for their bicycles but also for their motorbikes.
If you take a look at our Monark Classic Road Frame Set from the early 1970s, you can immediately tell that they did care about quality. The steel tubes, made of Reynolds 531 alloy, are connected with beautiful Nervex professional lugs.
