Every Thursday: Wine & Cheese from 18:00 to 22:00
Taste our weekly selection of cheese accompanied with outstanding wines!
Every Friday: Aperitivo Friday from 18:00 to 22:00
The "Aperitivo" is a tradition deeply rooted in Italian culture. Join us for our Aperitivo Fridays! It´s an opportunity to catch up with friends, unwind after a long day and indulge your appetite with an aperitif, a glass of wine or a beer and sampling some home-made dishes before heading home.
Daily: Breakfast/Brunch from 10:00 to 15:00
Small but fine selection of breakfast menus! Also for vegan and vegetarians. We'll be serving our usual menu, too (Piadina sandwiches, scones and cakes). Plus we now have more Italian Piemonte wines available.
We look forward to seeing you again in Weidenweg 63, 10247 Berlin :-)
Alex and I met in Berlin in February 2013. We both had the desire to build a cycling community and create a cosy "pit stop" where "cycling aficionados/fans" could hang out. We thought about the concept for a couple of months, visited cycle cafés during a business trip to London in order to get the "grit of it". Our Café’s final concept really only cemented itself during the building phase which coincided with the Eroica race (in Gaiole, Italy). That’s when we knew we were doing the right thing: by trying to incorporate and honour Gaiole’s beautiful cultural heritage in Berlin, by trying to make it a daily habit, and not just an annual event. L’Eroica takes place on gravel roads with 80’s bikes and traditional woolen jerseys. Fueled by rich Italian food and wine, this world famous race captures the golden era of cycling.
After having taken part in the race, offering Moser wines to our customers just seemed like the natural thing to do. The long, picturesque drive to collect the wine by hand will continue to inspire and infuse us with new energy and ideas.
We needed to raise start-up funds for the Café and build a new kitchen. We decided to use Startnext, a Berlin based crowdfunding platform.
Crowdfunding means raising little bits of money from lots of people, rather than lots of money from a few people. We set a target of €10’000 and our campaign ran in January and February 2015. We ended up exceeding our wildest expectations, raising a bit more than €12’000 from well over 100 fantastic donors.
We would like to express our gratitude to our amazing supporters in every way possible. It was amazing to experience such a level of goodwill and the support that they offered us.
A cosy coffee shop stocked with vintage and fashionable cycling accessories, Steel Vintage Bikes Café is a place that will appeal to the cycling enthusiast as well as leisurely day riders and the uninitiated passers-by, some of whom we expect to convert on their way.
SVB Café offers quality snacks, cakes and drinks while you peruse the bicycle books and magazines provided. We will hold cyclerelated events, information and will be an overall advocate for cycling.
Seating is limited to stools in the window, two benches and a couple of tables and chairs. Our space is a combination of café and showroom. We wanted to create a place where anyone and everyone would feel welcomed by friendly service in an atmosphere both cozy and enthusiastic.
The reasons for creating a hybrid – bike and coffee shop were many: a love of cycling, a passion for coffee, an appreciation of tasty snacks – but also a desire to build something special that plays a role in our community where people can have fun, chill out and enjoy the best of cycling culture.
Steel Vintage Bikes embodies the innovative DIY culture of its customer base. The café space will reflect that mindset: quality bikes and attention to service, delicious snacks plus great coffee and beer all with an open and relaxed vibe. For those who aren ́t bike people, the café can make a specialty bike shop less intimidating and will strive to engage a new cycling audience by showcasing its fun, healthy and sustainable nature.
Steel Vintage Bikes Café has been funded with a Startnext crowd funding campaign! We deeply thank all our supporters and hope to see you all in our café soon :-)
